Baton Rouge
Baton Rouge is roughly 90 miles northwest of New Orleans along the Mississippi River. The English translation of the French name is red stick. The city, with just over 200,000 people, is Louisiana's capital and home to Louisiana State University.About one-third of the city's population is of French descent. This lends to the heavy Creole influence that permeates food and culture in Baton Rouge, displayed no more prominently than during the annual Bonne Fete and Mardi Gras celebrations in early March.Baton Rouge is roughly 90 miles northwest of New Orleans along the Mississippi River.
