FC RAPID
FC RAPID 2 min 41 sec - Jan 16, 2007 Fotbal Club Rapid Bucure?ti is a football club of Bucharest, Romania. It was founded in 1923 by a group of workers of the Grivi?a workshops under the name of ?Cultural and Sporting Association CFR? (in Romanian: Asocia?ia cultural? ?i sportiv? C.F.R.). Rapid won four Romanian championships (in the unofficial, war edition, of 1942, and then in 1967, 1999 and 2003) and twelve times the Romanian Cup. They were the first Romanian team to reach the finals of an European clubs competition, but their history isn?t all bright, as Rapid were relegated a number of time during the Communist years. In 2006, Rapid became an incorporated company, its largest share-holder being George Copos, a wealthy Romanian bussinesman. Club history In September 1923, Teofil Covaci, Grigore Grigoriu, Geza Ginzer and others agreed the fusion between two amateur clubs, ?CFR? (ex-?Rampa Militari?) and ?Excelsior?. The team consisted mainly of railway workers in their spare time. After a few years, the team started competing in the first league in 1931. In 1933, following the railroad workers? strikes and riots ended by police in a bloodbath, the owner became the Romanian Ministry of Transportation, and it staid this way until 1992. During the pre-war years, Rapid was one of Romania?s top teams, regularly winning the cup. The railway workers were not the selection pool anymore, but a strong supporting audience. Some players were also selected in the national team. During those years, but also during the war, the competitions? formats changed for various reorganisations and some of the performances Rapid achieved were never considered as official successes. The strangest of all might be the final of the Mitropa Cup (precursor of the UEFA Champions League, also won by Inter Milan) at a moment when the competition is taking its last breath. The beginning of the Communist regime brought a new series of teams and regulations, and Rapid, although more lucky than oth (more...)

Imagine Cup Innovation Accelerator: Team Brazil Presentation ...
? A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of watching the top 6 teams from Imagine Cup 2006 present their innovations to a panel of industry experts. For two weeks, these 6 teams were provided with extensive training focusing on how to take their applications to the next level: to market. This two week event is known as Innovation Accelerator and the purpose is to help teams understand and develop a business plan (of course, not all teams plan to sell their applications, but all of them were excited to learn about how to present their innovations in a way that will appeal to business folks, like, you know, venture capitalists and the like). Here, team Brazil presents their technology to an audience of their peers and a panel of experts (who ask questions after the presentation). What awesome technology did Team Brazil create? Tune in and see. Download the Video Watch the Video (more...)
imagine cup 2006. behind the scenes of the short film competition...
this year, the finals for the imagine cup nbsp;brought student competitors from 180 countries all over the world to india to compete in 6 different categories. i focused my attention on the short film nbsp;competition. there were six teams: canada , poland , taiwan (china) , turkey , usa (lansing) nbsp; and usa (echo). the short film invitational highlights the art and science of telling a story. students are challenged to share a perspective on the theme of the imagine cup but moreover they are asked to express themselves in a unique medium that still challenges even the most veteran of filmmakers. from concept and storyboard, to footage and editing, these participants must be able to put it all together and move an audience. unique perspectives and creativity abound in this process but the story must still come through the digital media and have a strong purpose and meaning. only the most talented young filmmakers will even attempt such a feat. i followed the canadian team for 3 days while they worked, slept, ate, conquered problems and created magic. take a look at my journey with team canada. also, the event itself garnered tons of media attention nbsp;and it promises to be even bigger next year! register now nbsp;for next year and be a part of history. canadian entry taiwan entry turkey's entry poland entry usa (lansing) entry (more...)
